Does anyone know a good source / supplier of undecorated stick pins/hat pins that I can decorate myself? I am searching for suppliers in UK, USA, or globally for pins - know as stick pins, hat pins, clutch pins...etc etc, they are a couple of inches long and have a little clasp that you slide on the end so you dont stab yourself whilst wearing. Some have hoops on the end for decorating, some just a plain head like a regular pin. SHARON A replied: "I just googled this and there seem to be quite a few available on Ebay.

Also this site in the UK"
spottie replied: "Have a look on ebay. There is lots of jewellery making stuff on there. Go to search and type in 'findings'. You'll find what you need, I'm sure."

I love the 50's and am into the Rockabilly style. I have collected many vintage hats and for the ones in which require a hat pin to be threaded through the hat and your hair to stay put I have failed miserably at. Most times I end up poking myself ( Ouch! ) and others I get a piece of hair but it ends up sliding off. What is the correct technique?
I thank you all for your time and assistance! fashionâ„hottie replied: "google it!

venesa replied: "HOW TO USE A HATPIN:
Certainly it's easy enough to pin a hat to an updo such as a French twist, where there is a good-sized knot of hair to hold a hatpin securely. But for the longest time we have wondered, how on earth did thousands of 20th-century women manage to pin hats to loose-hanging hairstyles? Finally we have an answer!
1. Put the hat in place on your head.
2. Carefully insert the hatpin through the hat, catching a small lock of hair underneath the hat.
3. Twirl the hatpin around to wrap the lock of hair around the end of the pin. This step is very tricky when dealing with delicate material, so be sure to practice on something sturdy before you try this with your straw hats.
4. Push the end of the pin through the hat to secure it

He'll spin a record with a hat pin connected to the foam board which will cause the vibrations to travel so that we can hear the music. The instructions say to use a hat pin.
I went to 2 craft stores to no avail. I do have corsage pins but nobody seems to know for sure if these can work to replace the hat pin. My questions are is a hat pin thicker than other pins - (maybe so that it can transfer the vibrations better)? And is it less sharp than a corsage pin? Did they not suggest corsage pins possibly because the sharp tip might scratch the record?
How much difference is there between the hat and corsage pin?
Thanks! BMF replied: "A hat pin is shorter and thicker than a regular pin. It's not really sharp at all. I don't know where your at but go to a cowboy store. A place that sells boots or cowboy hats. I'd almost guarantee they will have hat pins. Or a truck stop." What is the signifigance of the marine corps hat pin from their uniform? A friend dropped his in my other friends car and we aren't sure if he'll get in trouble for losing it. 0100 USMCBoy replied: "Possible!! The "pin" represents his rank in the Marine Corps.
If MOS job required to be around people who are in a higher rank than he is in deep sh!t.
If its his had and your talking about the "eagle globe and anchor" then he is really in deep deep sh!t."
LAVADOG_1/3 replied: "It sounds like his emblem came off of his cover...
Its the Eagle Globe and Anchor...He just needs to get another one..No big thing unless he wears his cover w/out it..
Its not his rank because Marines DO NOT wear rank on their covers..The other branches do,Marines do not.."
sarah replied: "he will get in trouble if he wears his uniform without it. he can just go buy a new one though, so i wouldn't worry." In Miss Marple or other murder mysteries, would a hat pin through the heart or stricknine in snuff really kill? Also what methods that you read about/ watch on telly are actually accurate. i know poisoning was easier in old times due to lack of control, but does, injection air really kill or knocking someone out cause them to suffocate. The Rugby Player replied: "YES" How do I use a hat pin? I have an Edwardian-style straw hat and would like to use a hat pin to keep it from flying off all the time. But I can't seem to figure out how exactly a hat pin is used. Presumably it's stuck through the hat and into the hair somehow but exactly how this is supposed to work I'm not sure. I wear my hair in a low bun, and it's usually fairly flat against my head. I'm not sure if this is a problem or how I could solve it either... If anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated. ^_^
Thanks! CiCi replied: "The hat pin pierces the outside of the hat, usually at the back, goes under the hair, against the scalp then out the other side. If your hair is in a bun, all the better to keep your hair from slipping out from the pin. I would suggest putting a little rubber or cork tip on the sharp end after it's secure to keep it from sticking yourself or someone else!" Where can I find hat pin (hatpin) or stick pin blanks? I really want to know because i want to make some of my own...
I would love if I could find them in gunmetal, copper, gold, and silver.
If there are any stores in the Chicago area where I can get them for sure please let me know.
Thanks :) Jen replied: "go to an antique store. usually they'll have old hat pins for pretty cheap"
